Dotty Flowers

Hey everyone! It's the end of the weekend again, why does it always come so quick? I've had a really lovely weekend with friends and my boyfriend but I've got absolutely zero nail stuff done. Saturday is usually my nail day but I just didn't have a chance (and sometimes it's nice to have a day for me). So today I'm showing an older post that I'd not got around to posting because I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I was sent the Winstonia - Berry Wine Brushes* to review and I've used them in most of my designs for the past couple of months but this design was the first time I played around with them. I liked the design more in person so I've debated whether or not to post them or not, but this blog should be a diary of all my designs, good and bad, so here you go. I'll do a full review on the brushes soon, but I want to get a bit better at using them first.

The base for these nails was Gelish - Don't Pansy Around* from the Botanical Awakenings Collection. Then I used acrylic paint for the flowers with these brushes. Finished with Gelish - Top It Off

Gelish A Very Nauti-cal Girl Collection Review + Swatches

Hey everyone! Happy hump day, only 2 more days until the weekend. I'm really looking forward to this weekend because I'm off to see Finding Dory, I have waited far too long for this film and I'm glad it's finally been released in the UK. I'm not sure why the gap between US and UK release dates was so huge. I also went to see the BFG last weekend (I seem to be spending a lot of time at the cinema recently!) and I would recommend it 100%, such a lovely version of a childhood classic. Now I just need them to do a new version of The Witches, the book (and the film) were always my favourite growing up and I loved to see a modern version. What's your favourite Roald Dahl book?

Anyway, today I have a review of the gorgeous Gelish - A Very Nauti-cal Girl Collection*. I was really excited when I saw sneak peaks of this collection because these kind of shades are right up my street. I've already used a couple of them for nail art, either on me or on others, and they're firm favourites in my collection. Gelish consistently impress me with their shades and colours, and I have friends coming back to me again and again to have their nails done with Gelish products. It's great to be able to use my friends as guinea pigs as I often can't wear polish for more than a few days (although my toes also get to be testers too!). There's been loads of amazing releases this year, and many more coming up, which I hope to be able to share with you too! You can see all my previous Gelish posts here.

Wish Upon A Starboard* is a lovely postbox red. I own quite a few pinks and reddish colours from Gelish but this is the first real red shade and I love it. This was 2 easy coats with one coat of Gelish -Top It Off.

Catch My Drift* is a cobalt blue that leans toward being purple/'blurple'. The camera doesn't pick it up too much but there's definitely a hint of purple in there. This was 2 easy coats shown with Top It Off.

My Yacht My Rules* is a lovely dewy off-white/very light pink shade. I'm not really sure how to describe this so I've compared it to Gelish - Arctic Freeze* (below) for comparison. This was 3 thin coats with Top It Off. I recently did a manicure for my friend using this and she loved it.

And a macro for good measure:

Girls Love Buoys* is a crelly fuchsia shade. I loved this so much that I ended up creating this nail art with it and wearing it for a few days. Such a great summer colour! This was 2 coats with Top It Off.

What do you think? Have you tried any of these? Let me know in the comments!

Gelish - Botanical Awakenings Collection [partial] Swatches and Review

Hey everyone! I've had a super busy week. I got back from London on Sunday evening but I was back there again on Tuesday and as a result my week has been quite disjointed. I'm glad it's almost the weekend so I can get my mind back on track! Today I have a review of a couple of shades from the Gelish - Botanical Awakenings collection*: Primrose and Proper* and Don't Pansy Around*. Whilst there are actually 6 shades in the collection, I felt like these were the two colours that stood out to me, and I'm glad I chose them. Primrose and Proper* in particular is gorgeous, and I used it in this nail art recently. Gelish is definitely one of my favourite brands, and I'm really loving working with gel at the moment so it's great to see more lovely shades coming out, and these definitely didn't disappoint.

Don't Pansy Around* is a bright pink creme. This was 2 easy coats, shown with Gelish - Top It Off

Primrose and Proper* is a lovely dusky lilac/nude/off white shade which is great for elegant designs and matches well with glitter. This was 2 easy costs

What do you think? Do you have/want any of the collection? Let me know in the comments!

Bright Pink Gelish Daisies

Hey everyone! I hope your Monday has been a good one, or better than it was for the England football team at least! It's been a weird old weekend for England, and I'm glad there will be something else for everyone to moan about for a few days! Anyway, today's nails were a bit of experiment. I wanted to try a different style of flowers, and I used a thicker brush to get the effect I wanted, using a similar technique to one stroke. I used acrylic paint so it would be easier to use for the design, and hoped for the best. I ended up really liking how they turned out, and they were super quick to do.

For my base I used Gelish - Girls Love Buoys* from the new A Very Nauti-cal Girl collection*. Then I used acrylic paint for the flowers, and Deborah Lippmann - Build Me Up Buttercup for the yellow. Finished with Gelish - Top It Off

Gelish Glitter Geometric

Hey everyone! I decided to take a few days break from blogging, after my awful weekend last week I really just wanted some down time and to spend a bit of quality time with my boyfriend. There's always something to do when you're a blogger, and it can start to weigh you down sometimes. I'd never give it up but sometimes I need to step away for a few days, even if I feel guilty about it. But now I've had a few days break I'm feeling refreshed and ready to write a new post. Tomorrow I'm off to the Scratch Star Awards where I'm nominated for Best Nail Blogger. I'm nominated against Sammy and Lucie so I stand no chance but I'm excited to see them both and other blogging friends and have a good time.

Today's nails are created using the products of one of the sponsors of the scratch awards: Nail Harmony UK, the UK base for Gelish. Although, these aren't the nails I'm wearing to the Scratch Awards, I'll post those when I post about the event.  I've made no secret of the fact I love Gelish, and they've released so many amazing polishes recently so I've had lots of additions to my collection. The base for this nail art is one of those recent additions: Primrose and Proper*, from the Botanical Awakenings collection and it is a lovely subtle shade which works so well for this design, which was again inspired by Sophie of Nancy Loves Nails. I know it's very similar to this design I did a few weeks ago but I really wanted to retry the design with a gel white rather than a nail polish white, and I decided to add a bit of extra glitter too.

I used Primrose and Proper* for my base, then I used Gelish - Last Call for the glitter (tips were done with the brush from the bottle and the triangle was done with a nail art brush) and Gelish - Arctic Freeze* also for the tips using the brush from the bottle. Finished with a coat of Gelish - Top It Off.

I showed my friend these pictures and she liked the design so much she asked for it on her nails too.

Candy Coat Gel Polish Review + Nail Art

Hey everyone! Today I want to introduce you to a new gel polish brand called Candy Coat, who are offering the latest subscription box to the market, but with a twist: their boxes contain only their own gel products. I always love to discover new and exciting brands, especially ones that are being innovative, and so this really stood out to me as an interesting concept. Candy Coat offer two options:

Option 1: The colour box. This is not a subscription, so you can buy whenever you please for as little as just £35 a month (if you're in the UK) you get 10 colours and a topcoat and basecoat, which is crazy cheap. Full prices here.

Option 2: The subscription box. This is (as the titles suggests) a subscription, but with this you get 3 Candy Coat colours and goodies including accessories, tools and candy (of course) for £18 a month.

I received neither of the above, instead I received 7 gel colours* and a topcoat* and basecoat*, plus some goodies. So I decided to pull a few of the colours together and create some nail art, plus some flat lays because who doesn't love a good flat lay? More after the jump.

For this nail art I used 042* as my base colour, which is a really fun neon pink that stood out a lot more in person. Then I used 106* on my accent nail. For the marble I used 060* and 001* and 028* with a stamper and smushed it all together for this marble effect. Then I used regular white nail polish  with a Winstonia Striping Brush* for the lines and finished it off with the Candy Coat Topcoat*.

These are the gel polishes I was sent, from left to right 106*, 042*, 101*, 060*, 028*, 075*, 001. It's a shame that they don't have names, it always seems so odd to me to just have numbers.

One note is that I found the polishes to be a lot thicker in consistency than I'm used to for gels, I'm not sure if that's the intended effect but I definitely found them a lot thicker than other gels I've used. That's not necessarily a bad thing and it didn't impact the quality of the polish in my opinion but I thought it was worth noting.

I was also sent a box of goodies which you can see above and below, this included:

- Loose glitter
- Heart shaped soap
- Nail brush
- Cuticle Pusher
- Pen
- Straws
- Rhinestones
- Toe separators
- Nail polish emoji pin
- Glitter nail file

Evixi Gel Polish Review + Nail Art

Hey everyone! After doing the Paint All The Nails link up last week I was so inspired by the other ladies who all creating amazing stamping marbles (where you put polish onto the stamper and smush it onto your nail essentially) + stamping, that I couldn't resist giving it a go myself. I love saran wrap nails, but these are even easier to create, and much less messy. I'll definitely be trying them again. I love how with the colours I used here they look like a really beautiful set of clouds at sunset/sunrise.

Trying out this technique seemed to also be the perfect excuse to get cracking on my review of Evixi Gel Polish, I've been trying it out for a couple of months so I can give you a proper review, but this is the first nail art I've done with it on my fingers. I did some nail art on my toes, but this is definitely a fingers-only blog (so don't panic that I'm about the show you pictures of my feet). The design on my toes lasted for well over a month before I got sick of them growing out and took them off, but they were still going strong. I also did some nails on my friend Alice, which lasted her 3 weeks before she picked them off (tut tut), so I can definitely attest for them being long lasting.

The bottles and lamp are also gorgeous, whilst the bottles are similar to Gelish in their shape, their design is unique and is what really enticed me to reviewing the polish. They look classy and expensive, whilst actually being cheaper than most gel polish, if not all, priced at just £7 for one bottle. You could get a full kit with multiple polishes for under £100 which is virtually unheard of for gels.  Just as a warning this post is quite image-heavy, but I wanted you to get a good idea of the kit and the polishes so bear with me! Full post after the jump.

For my nail art I used a base of Evixi - Urban Mist*. The bottle says to apply two coats but that wasn't nearly enough, I ended up needing 4, which would be a pain with regular polish as it tends not to dry, but that's of course not a problem with gel because it cures with each coat. Then I applied drops of Pink Peony*, Blush*, and Celeste* to my base colour and smushed them down with a stamper. Then I used Bundle Monster stamping plate BM-208 for the shattered effect, and studs from Born Pretty Store. Finished with a coat of Evixi - Top Coat*

I received 5 colours, a base coat, topcoat, a lamp, and a cleanser and remover (not pictured because I'm an idiot but you can see them on their website here, they have equally as lovely packaging and they're HUGE compared to most cleansers/removers you get with gels). Which is plenty enough for a starter kit, and you could get the whole lot for around £80 if you buy this kit  (which is currently on sale for £49.99) and the rest of the polishes separate.

Aren't the bottles gorgeous? I love the pattern on them.

These are the five colours I received, from left to right, Pink Peony*, Blush*, Sahara*, Celeste*, and  Urban Mist*.

The lamp*, as can be seen above and below, is kind of hexagonal in shape. I don't even know if that's the right word, but it's definitely the most unique lamp I've come across, and I don't know what other word to use to describe it. The lamp has 4 settings, as you can see below, but I don't know why you'd ever have use for anything other than the 30s button, which is how long it takes to cure the gels and the basecoat/topcoat.

What do you think? Have you tried Evixi Gel before? Let me know in the comments!
