Throwback Thursday - Neon Stripes

Hey everyone! It's almost the end of the week, just one more final hurdle and we'll have reached the weekend. I've got lots of birthdays this weekend (sister, mum and grandma), and it's fathers day too, so not only am I busy, I'm also poor! It'll be nice to have a meal with the family though, and eat cake. Diets have to go out of the window when there are so many birthdays to celebrate. Anyway, it's been a while since I did a Throwback Thursday post, despite the fact I've actually had these images for well over 2 months. Thursdays just seem to pass me by, and suddenly it's Friday and I have missed the day to post once again, but this week I finally remembered! 

This was the original post for these nails, which I did for the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge back in 2012. They ended up being quite popular, which I wasn't expecting, and a few years later I recreated them in pink here. But I wanted to go back to my original design and give it a new lease of life. The first time around I remember waiting hours and hours for tape to dry and getting frustrated at how messy it was. This time around Seche Vite was my friend, and so was liquid palisade, which made it a lot easier and a lot quicker to do.



I did unfortunately find that my lightbox washed out the neon quite a lot, but it is still the same shade I used in the original design: Orly - Glowstick. I wish it had picked up the colour better as it ruins the pictures a lot. Apart from the nail length difference, I actually think my original design wasn't too bad and so there's not that much difference between them, except the photography. I also clearly hadn't quite mastered the claw hand pose at this point!

Tutorial Tuesday: Barry M Blue Roses

Hey everyone! I hope you had a lovely weekend, it's been really sunny here for the past few days which has been a nice break from the usual dreary weather, but it's gone back to rain again now. Over the weekend I attended to Scratch Star Awards, where I was shortlisted for Best Nail Blog. Unfortunuately I didn't win, but Sammy did and she definitely deserved it more than I did, her blog is iconic. I'll be doing a full post on the event (and my nails of course) in the next few days but I wanted to post a tutorial today, as it's been so long since I did 'tutorial tuesday'. 

Today's tutorial is for these cute and simple floral stripes. I've done designs similar to this in the past using different shades, but it's always nice to see how I've progressed and also experiment with different colours against 'old' designs. You also can't go wrong with an easy combination of flowers and stripes. I was asked my Barry M to create some tutorials using their spring releases back in March, and this was one of the looks I created using the Sunset Gel polishes*. Tutorial is after the jump.


The base for these nails is Barry M - Bug A Blue*, then I used Barry M - Cotton for the white, and Barry M - Pinking Out Loud*, All The Things She Red*, and Empire State of Mint* for the flowers. Finished with a coat of Seche Vite



Step 1: Paint your nails with your chosen base colour, it doesn't have to be blue. I've done this in the past with lilac, but it's totally up to you.

Step 2: Using a striping brush or nail art pen carefully paint stripes down half your nail

Step 3: Using a dotting tool add spots of pink to the other half of your nail

Step 4: Using a small detailing brush add depth to the roses by adding small red lines to the centre of the pink, start from the centre and work your way outward

Step 5: Using a green/mint shade add leaves to your roses with a nail art brush

Step 6: Using the tip of a brush or a nail art pen add white dots in between the roses. When dry, add topcoat to seal in your design.

Striped Hearts Valentine's Day Nail Art

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope, whether you're in a relationship or not, you've all had a lovely day. Me and my boyfriend aren't massive on celebrating it but we got each other cards and had a takeaway together which was nice. Of course, I had to have Valentine's nails too, so I created this simplistic look for Divine Caroline using polishes from the new OPI - New Orleans collection*. Gradient Barry M Stripes

Hey everyone! It's an exciting week this week for me, today was my first day at my new job, and tomorrow is my birthday! So a busy couple of days. Anyway, it's freezing cold here at the moment but I wanted to bring a bit of brightness with my nails. This was a new look for me but they didn't really turn out as I had hoped, I used blue pink yellow and green but you can only really see the blue and green.. and mainly green. But nevertheless I do still quite like them, they are matte after all.

I used Barry M - Cotton as my base, and then I used striping tape to mark out my lines. Then I used Barry M - Sugar Apple, Barry M - Rose Hip, Barry M - On Your Marks, and Barry M - Key Lime for the gradient. Finished off with a coat of Barry M - Matte Topcoat. I did these before my Liquid Palisade arrived but knowing what I know now I really wish I'd had it for making clean up simple!

Multi Coloured Stripes for Barry M

Hey everyone! I'm starting to feel like I have nothing to post, as the past couple of Saturdays I've been busy and not really able to do my nails. I do have a few designs but I'm not sure whether I like them much, and I also have a few christmas designs but it's too early for them to be posted! Instead, I took to trawling folders and discovered a couple of tutorials I created for Barry M this summer but completely forgot to post. So that gives me something to post at least! These were just a design I created when I was wanting to experiment a bit and I wanted colour. You can do them with or without the black stripe it's up to you but I did it for consistency! 



I unfortunately can't remember all the colours I used as these are from a while ago. The white is Barry M - Cotton, the red is Barry M - Copa Cobana, the blue is Barry M - Sky Blue and the black is acrylic paint but the rest I'm unsure of.


Step 1: Paint your nails with a white base coat, I used Barry M - Cotton
Step 2: Using a small nail art brush draw squares on the centre line of your nail in your chosen colour
Step 3: Repeat this with your next colour
Step 4: Repeat with all colours until you have a line down your nail
Step 5: Using black nail polish or acrylic paint and a striping brush draw stripes either side of your pattern
Step 6: Finish off with a topcoat to seal in your design and you're done!

Glitter Striped Stars for Divine Caroline

Hey everyone! I've been debating whether or not to post these nails for a few weeks. These were one of those designs that just didn't turn out as I'd imagined. I love a combination of nude polish and glitter, and you all know I love pastels, but I'm not sure if the decision to combine all of them worked. Nevertheless, it's quite a fun design and with a different colour scheme it could work for christmas too, so if you want to create them yourself you can follow the tutorial here on Divine Caroline.

Negative Space All The Nails!

Hey everyone! Today's post is another monthly link-up from a Facebook group I'm part of called Paint All The Nails. Each month we do a non-compulsory monthly link-up with a theme we've all voted on. This month's theme is 'negative space', and I'm sure you all know that this was definitely my vote. There's so many designs you can do with negative space and I always love how they look. Funnily enough, I must admit that I completely forgot about this month's link up being today, and on Saturday (which is the only day I paint nails at the moment) it didn't even cross my mind. But, it happened to be that my subconscious clearly remembered, because I had an urge to do negative space nails, and I did. So rather than panic when I remembered I'd forgotten, I had a design waiting for me, and it's actually one of my favourite designs I've done. These nails were based off this post by Sakura Nail&Beauty on Instagram. The design instantly stood out to me, but I must admit I thought it might look better on shorter nails, so I gave it a go and I ended up loving the finished result. The nude colour on my middle and pinkie finger is OPI - Tiramasu For Two, with a coat of OPI - Bubble Bath over the top as I wanted it to be slightly pinker. Then I used Barry M - Cotton for the white, and Mavala - Lemon Cream, Barry M - Huckleberry and Mavala - Pistachio for the flowers. Finished off with a coat of Seche Vite. I'm not sure where the studs are from unfortunately but I would assume it's Born Pretty Store.
