Barry M - Coconut Infusion Full Collection review + swatches

Hey everyone! Today I have the brand new Barry M - Coconut Infusion Collection* to show you. These have just been released, and contain a completely new formula to regular Barry M nail polish. As described by Barry M their 'unique blend of coconut water and coconut oil gently hydrates and nourishes nails while delivering a beautifully smooth, gel-like glossy manicure'. How many times have we heard these claims? I certainly thought these would just be another 'fad' nail polish. I really couldn't have been more wrong. I'm not exaggerating when I say these are the best formula of nail polish I've ever experienced. Barry M have completely outdone themselves, baring in mind that their gelly polishes were already some of my favourites, if not my favourite. The application of all of these polishes was silky smooth, two coats for every polish and they dry really fast. As in, faster than the speedy dry polishes. I would describe these as a combination of the gelly polishes and the speedy polishes with all the best qualities. I can't attest for the hydrating qualities, I'm not really sure how you'd test that, but they definitely deliver a 'smooth, gel-like glossy manicure'.

One thing I did notice about the collection is that quite a few of the polishes are largely similar to other Barry M polishes, I imagine this was so that favourite colours could be reinvented with this new formula, but I wanted to compare and contrast them with their similar counterparts so you can see what to expect. So with each colour is an individual comparison of similar shades. As a warning this will be a super long post, but it's definitely worth the read as this collection should be top of your wishlist.

Aloha* is a bright fun pink which certainly suits its name. This was 2 very easy coats, and it dried fast and shiny without topcoat (as shown).

Below I've compared Aloha* (middle finger) with Miami (ring) and Get Set Go (pointer). Beady eyed readers will see that I stupidly took this picture the wrong way round! But hopefully you can get the idea. I'd say it's most similar to Miami but really it's a different shade

Bikini* is a nice mint green. This was 2 very easy coats, which dried fast and shiny without topcoat, as shown in the pictures.

When I first saw Bikini* I instantly thought that it was very similar to another new release from Barry M, Empire State of Mint, from the Sunset collection for Spring/Summer 2016. I've compared them below, with Bikini* on the middle and E.S.O.M on the ring (left), on my pointer is Greenberry. In this picture there's quite a bit of difference between the colours, but in person it's quite hard to tell them apart. Their formula is what differs.

Laguna* is my favourite shade of the collection, surprise surprise, a light blue! This was 2 very easy coats, which dried fast and shiny without topcoat (it's quite hard to write the same thing 9 times, because the formula is the same throughout the collection)

Below I have compared Laguna* (middle), with Eat My Dust (ring) and Blueberry (pointer). They differ considerably, but I find that it helps to see what a colour really looks like when it's next to comparative shades.

Skinny Dip* is the lightest of the four browns in the collection. This definitely suits its name as it is a pale skin-like colour. This was 2 easy coats, which is rare in pale colours, and it dried fast and shiny without topcoat (as pictured)

Below I have compared Skinny Dip* to Lychee (pointer) and Butterscotch Sundae (ring). These were very similar in colour, but it's a shade lighter than the other two.

Starfish* is another of the browns, this was 2 easy coats with a creamy application. Shown without topcoat as it dried fast and shiny without

Below I have compared Starfish* to the same as I did with Skinny Dip*. With Lychee on the pointer, and Butterscotch Sundae on the ring. These were also very similar but this is a shade darker, rather than lighter as Skinny Dip* was.

Sunkissed* is more of a tan colour than the previous two browns, which suits its name. This was 2 easy coats, without topcoat

Below I have compared Sunkissed* to the same as I did with Skinny Dip* and Starfish*. With Lychee on the pointer, and Butterscotch Sundae on the ring. These were quite significantly different, this is a lot darker than the previous shades.

Tiki Hut* is what I would describe as gingerbread, this kind of shade doesn't really suit my skin tone so it was probably my least favourite of the collection. Although, that's through no fault of its quality as again this was 2 easy coats, which dried fast and shiny without topcoat.

Below I have compared Tiki Hut* to Sunkissed* (pointer) and an old Barry M polish: Mushroom (ring). Tiki Hut* is a pretty unique shade to the Barry M collection, there isn't anything very similar, especially not that I own anyway.

Below I have also compared the four browns from the collection. If I was to have any criticism of this collection it would be that there are far too many browns, I wish there could have been a yellow or a fun green or something but nevertheless, nudes will always be great for nail art. Tiki Hut* is the most different out of the four, the other three are very similar

Surfboard* is a lovely lilac-y pink, I'm torn on whether it's lilac or pink which is why I've described it as such. This again was 2 easy coats, without topcoat as it dried fast and shiny without

Below I have compared Surfboard* to Honour (ring) and Fondant (pointer). It's very similar to Honour, but it's a bit more pinky, and again it differs in the formula

Last but certainly not least is Flamingo*, this was 2 easy and smooth coats. Shown without topcoat as it dried fast and shiny without

I compared Flamingo* (middle) to In A Heart Beat (ring) and Papaya (pointer), it's pretty much identical to Papaya, although slightly lighter, but the consistency is a lot more creamy.

As a Barry M blogger I was also lucky enough to receive a super cool gift with the collection, in the form of this Barry M portable phone charger, shown below. It's massive, as you can see from the comparison to an actual bottle of polish, but it's so cool. My best friend was very jealous that she couldn't buy one of these herself (she tried googling it to no avail). I think this could be a lucrative market for Barry M to step into (hint hint).

These retail at £4.99, so they're slightly more expensive than other Barry M polishes, but it's definitely worth the extra £1. I can't say whether they wear well, I will test them out and update this post in due course, but their formula is amazing. You can get them here on the Barry M website, or at Boots/Superdrug now.

If you've made it to the end, well done, this was a very long post and it's taken me a good few hours to finish it tonight, but it was definitely worth it.

Which is your favourite polish from the collection? Let me know in the comments!

Barry M Autumn Glitter Leaves

Hey everyone! It's been so long since I created these nails that I'd completely forgotten I did them. I did them last Autumn, but Autumn had finished by the time I got around to thinking about posting them and it was too late. So instead I thought I'd save them for this year, and luckily I remembered before it was too late this year. I created these for Barry M using their Autumn 2014 Gelly collection, and a full tutorial is after the jump.

The base for these was Chilli, then I used Paprika, Cardamom, Mustard, and Cocoa for the leaves, outlined with white acrylic paint. All done with a chopped down detailing brush. I'm not sure which glitter it is but it's one of the Barry M limited editions. Then finished with a coat of Seche Vite

Barry M Sunset Cotton Bud Stamping

Hey everyone! I have some more nail art using the Barry M Sunset collection for you today. You can see the first lot here, and my review here. I'm sure it's clear by now that I really like doing this cotton bud stamping design. It's just so easy to do and it looks really effective, I might even do some more this weekend. I apologise if you're bored of seeing them but they probably wont be going away anytime soon.

For these I used Barry M - Dark Side of the Shroom* for the base, and then I used Barry M - Miami, Barry M - Rose Hip and Barry M - Sky Blue for the stamping (with cotton buds - hence the name), and then I finished off with a coat of Seche Vite.

Dark Romance Roses

Hey everyone! Today I'm showing you the second roses design that I promised in this post when I mentioned that I hadn't created roses in a while but ended up creating a couple of designs at once.  It's also my first nail art post using the newest Barry M - Sunset Collection*, which I reviewed here. I don't want to claim these to be 'realistic' but they're probably as realistic as I'm going to get as I don't tend to try to make roses look real, ever. With these I really did just mix pinks together until I thought it looked okay and they ended up looking a lot like petals (or at least I think so), I just wish I'd added more detail to the leaves!

I used Barry M - Plum On Baby Light My Fire* as my base, then I used Barry M - Miami, and Barry M - Rose Hip for the roses with a striping brush, and then I used a detailing brush for the leaves with Barry M - Key Lime, and OPI - Dont Mess With OPI. Finished off with a coat of Seche Vite

Spring Sunflower Nail Art

Hi guys!! I missed you all! I know it's been ages since I've posted and usually bloggers apologize for that when they've been absent, but I'm not going to this time. :P I've just been living life and pursuing other passions and I don't think there is a need to apologize for that. I started The Nail Network at a fun project, not as a job, so why should I force myself to post if I'm not feeling it 100%? I'd rather step away for a bit and come back once I've taken a breather and renewed my interest. With that said, I'm not promising I'll be back to posting consistently. I don't know when I'll post. I'm just going to paint my nails at my own pace and post when I feel like it.

But anyway, that's enough introspection and life-talk, I pulled these sunflower nails from my archives because I'm desperately craving the warm spring weather that we are supposed to be having in April! It's been snowing here the past two days! It's not sticking but still, it's the principle of the thing.

For this look, I started out with two coats of the most perfect green grass polish, Zoya Tilda. I used a nail art brush to paint the big yellow sunflower shape with a Sally Hansen Insta-Dry polish (the name is escaping me but I know it has the word "lightning" in it) and then I mixed a little bit of white with it to paint the lines for the petals. I used an orange shade (I don't remember this one either, don't kill me!!) to create a jagged line near the center of the flower and then I used Zoya Louise to make the darker brown area, making a jagged line over the orange. I finished the design off with some taupe dots inside the darker brown area. And top coat of course!

I have the whole weekend off, so hopefully there will be some nail painting and post writing in my near future! ;) Hugs!!

KBShimmer Men Are From Mars-ala Swatch & Review

In case you are living under a rock (or are like me and just don't care), Pantone released their Color of the Year for 2015 and it's... marsala. Marsala is apparently a reddish brownish wine shade that I definitely am more into than the orchid shade they picked for 2014. KBShimmer created a wonderful representation of the Color of the Year with their new shade Men Are From Mars-ala.

Men Are From Mars-ala is a gorgeous red-brown holographic polish. As always, the formula was perfect and I got excellent coverage in two coats. KBShimmer never disappoints! This shade is available now, so check out KBShimmer's website!

The products in this post were provided for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

A2Z Series - I Is For 'Inspired'

Hi NaiLovelies!

We're back again with the A2Z Nail Art Blogger Challenge after the two week break over the Christmas period.  This week the prompt is I and the word is INSPIRED.

I am really excited to show you my manicure today which inspired' by not one, but two people....

I'll also get to squeeze in a nail art product review for Born Pretty Store whilst I'm at it!

The first lady who inspired this weeks creation is named Lori - she inspired the colour choice for this manicure - she loves a good brown polish so for me IBD Dolomite was an obvious choice.  I affectionately refer to her as my Fairy Godmother - I hope she doesn't mind.  She is a wonderful person with an amazing heart and her selflessness and generosity are something which always stuns me.

The second person who inspired this manicure is the exceptionally talented Kim from Ten Little Canvasses.   I was so happy when Kim decided to start blogging in the latter part of 2013.  I had often wondered how she created her fabulous designs so I was overjoyed to discover that Kim generously shares her knowledge of soak off gel polish and nail art. I have picked up many tips from her as she creates amazing nail art tutorials on YouTube, including her creation which inspired this manicure.

To create this manicure, I used a soak off gel polish base of IBD Dolomite (3 coats) - which is one of my top 10 soak off gel polish colours.  I then applied nail art frames to my ring fingers and created a handmade gem by mixing the beautiful multichrome colour shifting polish The Knight by Dance Legend, a dot of Flashy Sparklies by Dark Metal Lacquer and Megamix together to make a curable gel polish for the centre of the frames.  Mixing the two polishes gives so much depth to the gemstone - it glows!  I then applied two coats of the DIY gel polish followed by two domed coats of Gelish Structure to form the raised ball of the gem before finishing the manicure perfectly with three super tiny yet super effective 1.2mm gold metal studs from Born Pretty Store set the accent nail off perfectly.

I can barely believe I made that I was able to make the gem myself!!

I added the Born Pretty studs using Kim's tried and true method of setting the studs in gel polish basecoat as it works so much better than using nail glue!  The back of the studs is flat so they sit perfectly on the nail without slipping around in the gel polish before curing.  I then added a single coat of topcoat before stamping the manicure using MoYou Fashionista XL 07 plate and The Knight by Dance Legend - which stamps perfectly!

Dolomite - IBD Just Gel Polish
Round Ball Flat Back Studs - Born Pretty Store
The Knight - Dance Legend
Flashy Sparklies - Dark Metal Lacquer
Fashionista XL 07 - MoYou
Nail Art Frames - Ebay
Gelish Structure
Megamix
